The property protection section is designed to provide protection to your house against damage. Like home
insurance liability protection discussed in home owners insurance article, is divided into two portions. One is property protection and the other is the liability protection.
Property protection
This section contains four types of coverage that the insurance policy will provide. These are discussed below
Personal Property
This coverage protects the personal property of the owner present in the house. Personal items of both the policy holder and the people living with him are covered. The protection provided for these items is according to the replacement cost of the items or their cash value. Some home insurance also provide protection for small size boats. However, remember that most of the insurance companies don't provide any coverage for damages to the motor vehicles unless you use them only in your house such as a lawn mover. The insurance policy that you have bought may also cover the electronic data, money, firearms, jewelry and other business property that you posses present in the house but there can be a limit on it.
Loss of Use
This coverage pays for your and your family's living costs if they have to live outside the house due to repair work or any government order that stops you to live in the house.
Dwelling
The dwelling coverage covers the house itself, the plumbing and heating, air-conditioning that is permanently installed, electrical system, appliances and other fixtures and any attached structure.
Other Structures
This coverage is to protect the structures that are not a part of the main building such as te garage, fences, sidewalks, driveways, patios, storage sheds. If you use the any of the detached structure for business such as use the store shed as a sales point then the coverage will not protect it.
Additional Property Coverage
Other then the above four coverage that are listed in home owner property protection, there can be additional coverage for your house. This coverage can include the debris removal, damaged trees and bushes, collapse of building, fire department charges, and glass breakages. These damages are paid if they are caused by the perils enlisted in the coverage policy.
Endorsements
If you are not satisfied with the coverage provided by the insurer then you can get extra coverage by adding endorsements for extra cost. These endorsements can include
Secondary residence
If you have summer house then you can get that house covered too by buying this endorsement.
Inflation Guard
This protection will keep increasing the price of your house according to inflation. With this coverage you are able to maintain the required coverage for replacement of your home if a loss occurs.
Scheduled personal property
This covers the personal items that the normal coverage doesn't protect such as stamps, furs, guns, antiques items, jewelry and other valuable items. The coverage provides may also have broad limit rather than limited in case of normal policy. Usually there is no deductible with this coverage.
Guaranteed replacement cost coverage
This will pay for the rebuild of your house if you have met all requirements of original insurance policy.
