Choosing an Insurance Company

Choosing the right insurance company is as important as selecting the right coverage you need according to your state and for protection of your car. This is so important because the company you choose must be reliable in terms of claims and pays you damages when accidents occur and above all treat you like a customer. How to choose a reliable company is difficult if you don't have any idea where to search. Below are several things that will make your decision a lot easier in choosing a company.

State's department of insurance

Each and every state has its own insurance department that has local office as well as websites. Many of them publish the fact sheet about insurance companies that include the complaints registered against them by their customers. You will easily get the ratio of complaints filed per 1000 claims. Having a reputable business doesn't mean that the insurance company deals well too. You should use this ratio to screen the companies. List down all the insurance companies that have few complaints and have low premium charges. The company that has both of these things at a minimum is the company you would like to do business with. if you are unable to find complaint ratios filed for a particular company in your state then check the other state departments for its ratings. The trends of an insurance company will differ from state to state but generally if in several states a company gets high number of complaints then it will not be that good in yours too. Another good option that the state department of insurance provides is the comparison among rates of these companies with the help of which you can get a rough idea of which company to choose.

Ask the Body Shops

Finding reliable insurance company shouldn't be stopped just by looking at the states insurance department's data. You can go visit the body shops you trust and ask them which insurance companies are reliable. Since the body shop managers are in regular contact with the insurance adjusters therefore they know which insurance company has smooth process of handling the claims and getting the cars repaired quickly. They also know an important thing that is the part replacement. A good company will use original parts rather than aftermarket parts and even if after market parts have to be used the company consults the customer first. Pushing a body shop to use after market parts without telling the customer is a good way of saving a lot of money.

J.D. Power Ratings

If you visit their customer center you will be able to make a good comparison amongst several auto insurance companies. What J.D. power do is that they collect data from the auto insurance policy holders and then give a rating according to the prices, converge options, handling of the claims, smoothness in processing, the consumer satisfaction and the experience. This gives a good insight about the reliability of a company.
